Call to Action: Jan. 23, 2017

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee (which includes Senator Udall) will vote Monday on Rex Tillerson’s nomination for Secretary of State at 4:30 p.m ET. Even though McCain and Graham have capitulated, making his confirmation a near certainty, we need to make our voices heard.

Call Udall’s Office: 505-346-6791

Here’s a sample script to help get you started:

“Hello, I am [NAME] from [PLACE]. I am to let the Senator Udall know that I would like him to oppose the appointment of Rex Tillerson for Secretary of State. As your constituent, I feel we cannot reward Russia’s attacks on our electoral process by handing the State Department to somebody who was given the Russian Order of Friendship by Vladimir Putin. I cannot be sure Mr. Tillerson will prioritize American values after he did business with Iran while the country was under U.S. sanctions as a state sponsor of terrorism. Will the Senator pledge to publicly oppose Tillerson’s nomination?”

[If so] Has the Senator released a statement yet? If not, when can we expect it?

[If not] Other Democrats have expressed concern about nominating somebody with ties to Russia right now. Why doesn’t the Senator share those concerns?

[If still not] I find it unacceptable that the Senator will support Tillerson right now given his history. I’ll be notifying my friends, family, and local newspaper.

Then share how it went, via social media.
